MF2023 Industrial Design

course, 2025-2026
This course teaches functional and aesthetic requirements, form, colours, semiotic analysis, sketching, 3D visualization models in a product development process. As a final project, we designed a kitchen scale aligned with Alessi brand identity.

Interviews & Market Research

The design process began by interviewing 10 kitchen scale users about their habits, preferences and purchasing behaviours. Based on the responses we created 3 user personas - we decided to design for Jacqueline persona as their needs both represent younger groups of users as well as of professional cooks.

Brand Analysis

We began with 3 brands that best represent the aesthetics of our moodboard.
We decided to work with Alessi brand as they combine simple geographical forms with silly and whimsical shapes, creating unique brand identity. We liked the animalistic designs as well as the alien looking objects such as remarkable “Juicy Salif” lemon squeezer.

Final Design

Our kitchen scale “Blob” combines the steel layered aesthetics characteristic to Alessi products, coupled with a pop of color. The scale is compact and can easily act as a standalone decorative piece in a kitchen.
